State Name: Tripura
Several presumptions exist for the origination of Tripura name. Some say that the cause of the name Tripura is from Tripura Sundari, the deity of Land. Later according to the historian Kailash Chandra Singha, the word Tripura is a plagiaristic from two unlike words Twi and pra. Twi meant as ‘water ‘and pra equals ‘near’. In Tripura schools they teach as the name originated as the honor of the temple at Udaipur, Tripureshwari, and the wife of lord Shiva. And according to legend, Tripura was the 39th progeny of Druhya, who was a successor of Yayati, one of the lunar pursuit kings.
